Mathura Bikash Tripura is a development worker and social activist. After the signing of the Hill Tracts Accord in 1997, development activities have been started in the Chittagong Hill Tracts and Mr. Tripura involved himself working for the development of the region. Since then, he has been directly involved in implementing primary education programs in various languages of the country.
Has conducted various research works on mother tongue education, social development, community empowerment and many other issues of development. He witnessed the educational activities in the mother tongue of small nationalities of different countries including Philippines, Thailand, Nepal and India. Presented keynote papers in various consultation meetings, workshops and seminars including UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, UN Expert Meeting on Education, UN Minority Forum, International Conference on Multilingual Education and many other forums organized by governments, non-government organizations, bilateral organizations and UN bodies.
He writes in his mother tongue Kokborok, Bengali and English. Has written 12 books, edited more than 15 literary magazines, development journals and periodicals and co-authored about 70 teaching-learning materials including text books, primers and story books for kids, and co-edited about 25 literary magazines and journals.
He has been involved in various consultancy works for UN bodies, EU and other local, national and international organizations. He is expert in multilingual education, community empowerment, local government, traditional governance, organization management and many other relevant sectors of governance and development.
He has traveled to various countries including the United States, Switzerland, France, Indonesia, Italy, Thailand, India, Maldives and Nepal.
Currently, he is working for Zabarang Kalyan Samity, a local NGO in Khagrachhari Hill District.
He has completed his post-graduate degree in history from Chittagong University in 2000.
He is the father of two sons and one daughter.
